Japan Day @ Central Park 2013

Japan Day @ Central Park 2013

This past May marked the 7th anniversary of Japan Day @ Central Park. The Japanese community of New York designed the event to promote a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and to say “Thank you, New York!” This year Japan Day returned to the Bandshell Area of Central Park with tents offering a wide range of Japanese traditional and family-friendly activities, including Kabuki face-painting, Yo-Yo fishing, and origami among others. Other highlights included free samples of popular Japanese cuisine (ramen, miso, gyoza, tea) and powerful stage performances throughout the day, such as a Dance Fashion Show by CHRONOGENESIS, R&B Vocal by MIREI, Karate by International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan, and the annual Art Contest.  As in past years, the four-mile Japan Run and the Kids Run, both organized by New York Road Runners, were also part of the Japan Day celebration. This year’s event had multiple sponsors including: Mitsui USA, ITO EN, Toyota, and the Japan Society.
